Advent Study
“And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found grace (free, spontaneous, absolute favor and loving-kindness) with God.” Luke 1:30
God’s favor and loving-kindness doesn’t always bring instant success or fame. This very first Christmas greeting, given by an angel to the shepherds and to Mary was “do not be afraid.”
God’s blessing on Mary that she was the mother of the Messiah would lead to much pain, rejection and sorrow. Think about her life from this moment on. She was visited by an angel, overcome by the Holy Spirit, learned she was pregnant with the Son of God, broke up and reunited with her betrothed, took a lengthy trip, returned, and traveled to a foreign village while nine months pregnant. Then she gave birth in an unfamiliar place and was visited by many unknown strange people. A lot of life changes in a short period of time leads to fear! Amazing her responses to all these changes in her life! She accepted the ways of the Lord and submitted to His plan for her life, even though I am sure she was filled with fear.
Prayer
Father, you are my Rock and refuge. No matter what changes around me, I will not fear, for you are with me. In my busy and hectic world, I need to be quiet and trust your plan and let go of my fears. . Amen.
Ponder
Jesus came as a baby to save us and His death and resurrection reminds us you came to take away our sin and our fear. What do you fear? How are you handling your fears?
